Showcasing the Past, Present and Future of Howard Park
Recently, Margaret River’s premier family winemaker Howard Park welcomed its new winemaker, Nic Bowen, as its Chief Winemaker. In the over 35-year history of Howard Park, Nic would become only the fifth winemaker at the helm. To mark the start of Nic’s journey at Howard Park and introduce him to media and trade in the Sydney market, Howard Park called upon Blend to produce an in-depth tasting event that best showcased the story of Howard Park, the evolution of its wines over time, and the direction Nic would take the winery into the future.
Instead of the traditional back vintage, varietal wine tasting, we worked with the Howard Park team to develop a ‘Past, Present and Future’ themed tasting, focussing on the wine styles of each of Howard Park’s past winemakers and the wines that defined their tenure at the famed Margaret River winery.
Blend was then charged with the production of the entire event, from venue selection, menu curation for the dinner event, design briefing for the tasting guides and invitation, talent briefing, and theming elements to enhance the experience.
We curated a guestlist of local and interstate media to attend the event, focusing on premium wine critics, food & drink media, and luxury media to attend this in-depth tasting event.
The event was hosted by Nic and second-generation General Manager and Marketing Director Nat Burch, who each shared their unique perspective and stories about Howard Park. The stories from the event, the tasting, and dinner experience would then inspire our media attendees to produce stories about Howard Park and its wines.
The event was a great success, with a wide array of feature stories that told the story of Howard Park’s past, present and future, in addition to profile opportunities for Nic as the new Chief Winemaker at Howard Park. These stories include:
- A feature Q&A with Nic Bowen in Gourmet Traveller magazine
- Feature stories and wine reviews in The Wine Front, Great Wine Blog, and Australian Wine Review
- A print feature in the Sunday Mail for Howard Park’s Jeté sparkling collection
- Inclusion of the Howard Park Grand Jeté in Sam Payne’s Gourmet Traveller Australian Sparkling feature
- A podcast episode and online feature with Drinks Adventures
